Why My Teenager Uses Organic Tampons #fearlessperiod

Cora Organic Tampons blog title
Being a mom has definitely made me re-think a lot of the products I purchase for myself, my family, and my home.  Cruelty free products are a must and the more I learn about the ingredients in products, the greener I go!  For some reason, it never occurred to me to re-think the tampons I was buying for my teenage daughter.
After a bit of research, and I literally mean “a bit” because once you learn about what is in traditional drugstore tampons, you will never want to put one of those inside your worst enemy😟, I decided it was time to go organic!  Keep reading to learn about why my teenager is now using organic tampons and how this brand gives back to girls in developing countries💖

Cora Organic Tampons what's in my bag?
“Mom!!!  I need tampons!!!”  Why is it that my teenager would always wait until the last minute to let me know that she is out of tampons?  It can’t just be my teenager…seriously…what a procrastinator!  So of course, what would I do?  I would head over to my nearest supermarket or pharmacy to buy the standard box of tampons that I never really thought about.  That is until I learned about CORA.  Once I spent some time really learning about that “standard” box of tampons and what the FDA doesn’t require from tampon manufacturers I was appalled.
Did you know…..
  • manufacturers of feminine hygiene products are not required to disclose their ingredients?
  • they are also not required to conduct testing to determine the long-term effects of their products on women’s bodies?
Am I the only woman that finds this to be absolutely crazy?!?!

“The female body is an intricate ecosystem.”  ~CORA

CORA understands that a woman’s vaginal tissue is extremely delicate and also extremely absorbent. With that in mind they took extreme care in developing a tampon that gets the job done without harming our bodies and leeching out any weird chemicals.
Their tampons are:
  • 100% certified organic, using only premium cotton (bye bye pesticides!)
  • uniquely woven for maximum absorbency
  • 100% biodegradable & hypoallergenic
  • BPA-free compact plastic applicator
I know you are going to ask, and yes they are working on developing a bio-based plastic for a more neutral environmental impact😊

  • width-wise expansion (versus length-wise, which honestly makes absolutely no sense!)
  • octagonal design for a more natural fit
  • interlocking cord (no glue) for extra leak protection
  • No fragrances, dyes, rayon, or synthetics!!!

Did you know that feminine products go through a bleaching process using chlorine, which produces toxic chemicals known as dioxins???

All of these nasty chemicals/ingredients have been linked to cancer, endocrine disruption (look it up…it’s scary!), infertility, and reproductive illnesses.

CORA was founded by two people, Molly and Morgen.  Molly’s “uncommon passion for women’s periods” came from a ten year journey working for women’s human rights across 5 continents and 13 countries.
Morgen’s story is a bit different.  His passion developed from his observations of his wife, Kayti’s, monthly struggles with feminine products.
Together, CORA was born.  This monthly subscription service allows women to take more control of their own monthly menstruation needs by selecting the amount and absorbency needed and having it delivered directly to their doors.  Subscribers can select from 6, 12, 18 or 24 tampons per month, as well as, whether they need a bit more regular absorbency or more super absorbency.  Subscription boxes are then shipped every three months.
The first delivery also includes CORA’s Signature Kit (below) which is comprised of the black storage box, a super cute vegan leather black clutch, and tampons that are packaged to share, which resemble a really chic tube of lipstick!
If you would rather purchase your CORA in stores, they are now available at over 200 Target stores nationwide and at www.target.com💖 This is a huge step in providing healthier and more sustainable menstrual care to women and girls both domestically in the US and in developing countries.

“We won’t stop until every woman on the planet has access to the safe and healthy menstrual products she deserves.”  ~~CORA founders, Molly Hayward & Morgen Newman

The CORA story doesn’t end there…

For every month’s supply of CORA that is purchased, they give a month’s supply of sustainable pads to a girl in a developing country💕

CORA believes that every woman and girl on the planet deserves to be able to effectively and safely manage their periods. Why should a young girl have to stay home from school because they don’t have a way to manage their monthly visitor???

They are also empowering women by employing them in these rural villages in the manufacture of the actual pads rather than just shipping them in, thereby supporting the local economy where the struggles stem from.
