Comparing the Original vs. the All-New Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette – Her Shades, Formulas and Whether I Love Her Just as Much

The original Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette is DEFINITELY one of my daily go-to palettes and it has been since I purchased it over two years ago. I remember seeing the brand start posting on social prior to launch and I was immediately drawn to everything about the brand. They are completely vegan and cruelty free. You know those two points are top of the list for me! They are also super focused on sustainability and clean ingredients. As a matter of fact, the original Rose Quartz Athr Beauty palette was the first completely zero waste eyeshadow palette in the beauty industry!

Once the palette arrived and I started incorporating it into my daily makeup looks, that was it! I was hooked! Since then, I have developed quite the Athr Beauty collection, but the Rose Quartz palette is definitely something special. I had actually been thinking to myself that I was going to NEED to re-purchase soon, since I have hit pan on 4-5 shades. I had no idea she was getting an update, and I have to admit, I was a little nervous! Did my favorite shades make the cut? Would I still love the new formula? Keep reading for a shade-by-shade comparison and my overall thoughts on the new and improved Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ’Ž

Aether Beauty Palette Collection

Let’s start with some basic information:

The original palette had 12 pans, the same as their most recent launches – the Joshua Tree & Moonlight palettes, and retailed for $58. This re-vamped version is trimmed down to 10 pans, and retails for $48. When it comes to price, it’s a pretty even deal pan-for-pan.

12 Pan Shades vs. 10 Pan Shades

I was actually quite surprised that there were only three shades that were being kept from 12 original Rose Quartz shades. They also happen to be all matte, and I have to attest that I love their original matte formula. For me to hit pan in a shade says something, and I have to admit, I have hit pan in all three of these shades!

Sandstone – a neutral tan matte

Scorpio – a rose brown matte

Aphrodite – a violet gray matte

That means there are 9 shades being retired, and 7 brand new shades being introduced in this re-vamped Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ’Ž I was curious as to whether each retired shade had a similar replacing it. I was able to find a lot of commonalities, but I think the new palette is really taking some of the shades to the next level! Let’s break it down shade-by-shade…

New Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette Swatches

The Rose Quartz Gemstone Palette v2 also touts the same skin-loving ingredients as her predecessor!

This palette contains actual rose quartz in the formulation! This love-inducing crystal helps fight aging and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. Metaphysically speaking, rose quartz is the stone of unconditional love. It is a universal healing stone with a nurturing, gentle, comforting and reassuring vibration. It also has a strong association to the Goddess, the Divine Feminine and the moon๐ŸŒ‘ So feel the love vibes when you are wearing these beautiful eyeshadows on your peepers!

The Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ’Ž also contains organic shea butter for a smooth, buttery formula. Organic Rosehip oil boosts collagen, reduces inflammation and brightens the skin, while organic coconut oil calms, protects and hydrates.

Athr Beauty, which is also sold at Sephora, just received the new Clean + Planet Positive seal which indicates that the brand is focused on climate commitments, sustainable sourcing, responsible packaging and environmental giving. There is also a super long list of bad ingredients that cannot be used in the formulation, such as phthalates, formaldehyde, oxybenzone, sulfates, and parabens. Athr Beauty was already ahead of the game with this, as they ban over 2700 ingredients from being used in their formulas and they only use organic and fair-trade ingredients whenever possible.

2 Looks with the New Aether Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette

So I have been playing with this new palette since it arrived and I have to say, I still do really love her! I think my familiarity with the original palette definitely helps as I already know what looks I tend to go for with the different shades. Formula-wise I did notice a few things…First off, the matte shades are way more pigmented then their predecessors. They still have some of that kick back in the pan, but I have not gotten an ounce of fallout during application or throughout the day.

I also noticed that the shimmers and metallics were buttery and more intense in the re-release and they applied smoothly. One of my favorite shades from the original, Chrystalline, was a die hard go-to, but I will say at times she applied a but powdery and patchy. Her new and improved sister shade, Karma, is beautiful and intense and applies like a dream. The one shade I will miss, but I can easily replace is Grounding, that matte charcoal shade. I like to take that deeper shade just under the orbital bone to create a bit more dimension deep in the crease.

I plan on continuing to use my original Athr Beauty Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstone Palette until it is ready to go to makeup heaven. I was actually considering de-panning it but I just love the packaging, so it may have to continue living in my palette drawer for a bit longer! Next up, I can’t wait to receive the Moonlight Crystal Gemstone Palette. I will be receiving this one soon and I am so looking forward to getting my hands on her and playing with these mesmerizing shades!
